Restaurant Korenhuis Gent

The restaurant takes its name from the fact that it is located on the Korenlei, the former ‘cereal quays’ and that it is set-up inside a renovated 16th century merchant’s house. It also evokes the atmosphere of the classic merchant’s house, modernized with the taste, design and expectations of today’s global culture.

The menu and cuisine is inspired by the historical influence that the cereals trade and shipping had over the shaping of the city’s culture, importing wines, exotic spices and new ingredients from near and far away places. The cuisine can be called ‘Contemporary Belgian’: modern, fresh and vibrant details and eclectic elements on a background of local specialties and ingredients.

In the domestic-style kitchen pantry of the Korenhuis, a breakfast buffet is set-up in the morning. The dining area is divided into four different rooms like inside an actual private house, each one with a slightly different atmosphere.

Lunchtime can be short, speedy and value-driven whereas at dinner a larger selection of ‘a la carte’ dishes is available to enjoy at leisure with an interesting choice of world wines exposed in an open wine wall.

Restaurant Korenlei 2 Gent

The location of the restaurant Korenlei Twee is such that from here you have a splendid view on the the Corn Wharf, the Grass Wharf and the Saint Michael’s Bridge that crosses the river Leie. From the patio at the back of the house, there where the rivers Leie and Lieve meet, you get an unforgettable view on the Old Fish market and the Meat or Great Butchers Hall. The neogothic house – it dates from the 18th century – and the original beautiful setting sets the place apart in the field, right in the oldest historical centre of Ghent, close to the old medieval Port.
